R² is hand-picked for its bug-bitten leaves and harvested closer to the tender bud, giving us shorter, finer leaves packed with more flavor. That richness, combined with the tea's natural bug-bitten character, builds sweetness as the leaves are roasted. Roasting then smooths out the leaf's rough edges, creating a rounded, layered with deep floral and fruit character.
Leafhoppers feed on the leaves, and the plant responds by releasing natural compounds to defend itself. That response is what gives R² its signature honeyed, fruity flavor. Because the leaves have already gone through stress, every step of production, including withering, oxidation, and rolling, has to be handled with extra care.
That process is what sets R² apart from a typical oolong. Most teas don't go through this kind of natural stress, which is exactly why honeyed, fruity sweetness can't be replicated any other way. It's a small imperfection in the field that turns into something special in the cup.
